God is at Work

by Lillie Smith, Volunteer Client Advocate

I had been volunteering at Wise Choices for three years when I had to miss my regular Monday shift due to illness.  Later that same week, I had interviewed for a paid position with a local health service organization.  After the interview I stopped for an afternoon soda.  Knowing how everyone at Wise Choices enjoyed afternoon sodas, I called and took drink orders.

As I pulled out of the restaurant and was headed to deliver drinks, I was praying and asking God where Wise Choices fit into my life and how my volunteer work there might be affected with the possibility of accepting the job for which I had just interviewed.

As I arrived at the center with drinks, the executive director met me with a very enthusiastic greeting, “I can’t wait to tell you what happened on Monday when you weren’t here!  One of your clients from a year ago brought in a friend who was in trouble and specifically asked to see you.  She said that the reason she had brought her here was because when she had come a year ago and talked to you that the one hour conversation she had with you was the most meaningful one she had ever had in her life…she wanted that for her friend too.”

My response…”I hear you Lord!!!”  I knew then where Wise Choices fit into my life and that I could not leave my Monday volunteer position.  It also made it convenient to turn down the job I had just interviewed for because they were unwilling to accommodate my need to have one day off a week to volunteer at the center.  I know God is at work at Wise Choices and I have to join Him here.

Wise Choices Pregnancy Resource Center welcomes you to our web site. Our purpose is to serve families in Wise County and the surrounding area who are facing an unplanned pregnancy. Our passion to do this work is driven by our desire to serve and give to others as Jesus would do and reach out to our community through His love.

For the past 30 years, abortion rights and human life have been a political hot button in our nation. Since 1973 when abortion in the US was legalized, over 40 million women have chosen abortion. That's about 1 woman in every 3.

With numbers that high, the Christian community cannot ignore that there are many walking wounded in our midst and we're still in the battle for the lives of the unborn and the souls of the women facing the life-changing challenge of an unplanned pregnancy.

Support Wise Choices PRC through online donations.Wise Choices Pregnancy Resource Center provides education and resources to women who believe they're pregnant and who may be considering abortion. We offer help without judgment and a path to Christ for those who would hear His call.

Wise Choices PRC wants to help churches, businesses, or individuals find a place to serve or be served by us through local missions, leadership education, abortion recovery counseling and more! Just give us a call if you'd like to know more.

Executive Director Report

God’s work through Wise Choices is evident by the stories of the lives He has touched since January.  Whether it has been within our walls or out in the community, we are boasting of the great things He has done.  He has brought us new prayer warriors, workers, and financial partners this year.

Here is evidence of some of the other work He has done.  The night of our 2007 Gala closed with His blessing of over $117,000 in one-time gifts and pledges.  He has used our new jail ministry to build relationships and make positive changes in the lives of 20 women dealing with some of the most difficult issues of life.  Many youth throughout Wise County were reached through “Abstinence Presentations” made by our Community Education Team. And He used a simple life skills class offered in the spring to high school teen mothers to make lifelong impacts on several young women.

We saw over 100 new clients in the first five months of the year offering free services such as pregnancy tests and limited ultrasound to those who tested positive.  After having an ultrasound test and counseling, God changed the minds of 100% of the abortion minded/vulnerable young women to carry their babies to term.  And the icing on the cake is the seven young women who made professions of faith after hearing the good news of Jesus Christ!

As you can see our “cup runneth over” with God’s provision!  The abundant outpouring of our partners’ love and care has humbled us all.
